Candidate Qualifying Deadline

Indian River County, FL – The qualifying week for candidates wishing to run for office in the upcoming General Election cycle is noon, June 8 through noon, June 12. Candidates can begin submitting their qualifying documents during the pre-qualifying period beginning May 25 through June 7. Candidates must turn in all required fees and paperwork no later than noon, on June 12, to qualify to be on the ballot.

A list of local candidates who have filed initial paperwork can be found at VoteIndianRiver.com under the 2020 Candidates tab, and the website will be updated as candidates qualify.

Candidates are encouraged to contact Jane Markley, Candidate Coordinator, at 772-226-3445 to schedule an appointment to submit qualifying paperwork. If you prefer to not meet in person, the Florida Department of State has issued Emergency Rule 1 SER20-1 in response to the COVID-19 virus which removes the requirement that the qualifying items be “original(s) and signatures thereon be made in ink”.

If you choose not to meet in person with the qualifying officer, qualifying documents can be accepted in the following ways: (1) Scan and email the copies to [email protected]. (2) Drop the documents off in the secure drop box at the Supervisor of Elections office. (3) Mail the documents in the enclosed envelope. If you choose to mail the forms, we encourage you to send them via certified mail and be sure to allow enough time for them to reach our office by the deadline.

Qualifying documents will not be reviewed until the commencement of the pre-qualifying period. It is the candidate’s responsibility to ensure all qualifying documents are filed prior to noon, June 12, 2020.
